The Concert For Bangladesh

This is music for humanity.

It was over 50 years ago, but it was a very successful show, its echo reverberating around the world. The spirit of humanity, the spirit of social care, and the sincerity in donating from the supporting artists are very worthy of respect.

Even though it was a charity concert 50 years ago, it still needs to be repeated and given continuously, because in the charity concert led by Ravi Shankar and George Harrison, the concept of HUMANITY HAS BEEN APPLICABLE CORRECTLY.

On Sunday August 1, 1971, Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr and Ali Akbar Khan – held the first mass philanthropic act at Madison Square Garden in New York. They raise charitable funds for disasters that have occurred in several countries, especially Bangla Desh. Terrible tragedy, 100,000 refugees came to Kolkata, but almost no one knew about it.

The previous November, cyclone Bhola had devastated East Pakistan and West Bengal, killing 500,000 people and displacing thousands more. The disaster exacerbated existing tensions between the people of East Pakistan and the Pakistani government, leading to the liberation war of 1971 and, later that year, the creation of the independent state of Bangladesh.

Whatever weaknesses, imperfections, must still be appreciated with high appreciation, because all of them have struggled with almost sudden preparations, for fear that disaster victims will be late in receiving aid. In that concert there was also a very beautiful togetherness, musicians from various nationalities and religions united, without any racism and discrimination, all working and doing charity for one goal, namely HUMANITY.

This is what it means to have implemented the concept of HUMANITY RIGHT. From any nation/race/religion and color of skin, if you are in a disaster or need help, it MUST BE HELPED, regardless of ethnicity/nation/race/religion and skin color.

Below is one of the lyrics of a song that was popular and worldwide at that time.. the lyrics are very touching. To feel the vibration of your soul, preferably while watching the video, click on the title of the song.

"Bangla Desh"

My friend came to me, with sadness in his eyes

He told me that he wanted help

Before his country dies

Although I couldn't feel the pain, I knew I had to try

Now I'm asking all of you

To help us save some lives

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh

Where so many people are dying fast

And it sure looks like a mess

I've never seen such distress

Now won't you lend your hand and understand

Relieve the people of Bangla Desh

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh

Such a great disaster - I don't understand

But it sure looks like a mess

I've never known such distress

Now please don't turn away, I want to hear you say

Relieve the people of Bangla Desh

Relieve Bangla Desh

Bangla Desh, Bangla Desh

Now it may seem so far from where we all are

It's something we can't neglect

It's something I can't neglect

Now won't you give some bread to get the starving fed

We've got to relieve Bangla Desh

Relieve the people of Bangla Desh

We've got to relieve Bangla Desh

Relieve the people of Bangla Desh
